ME221 Standalone Wire-In ECU.


The ME221 Wire-In ECU is a feature rich and future proof four cylinder injection engine management system. Built from the ground up using the latest control strategies means a modern, powerful, VE based ECU, with enhanced feature set including closed loop boost, in-built Wideband Lambda Control, DSP Knock Control, on-board data Logging and VVT control – all in a compact form factor. Massive IO means the ME221 can handle anything thrown at it, and custom tables means any specific algorithms required can be easily derived.

The ECU comes complete with the connector plug and pins but DOES NOT include cables/wiring. Please see our other ME221 listings for fully terminated loom options.

Options


Coolant and air temperature sensors. The ME221 and MEITE software do offer the ability to calibrate the ECU to read any sensor, however by using the sensors on offer in this listing the standard calibration tables can be used - vastly simplifying the set-up process and saving considerable time. Both sensors are M12 x 1.5 thread. The additional coolant temperature sensor housing offers a quick and convenient method for installing directly into a radiator top hose and negates the need for tapping out existing holes in your cylinder head.

Crank Sensor. The ME221 ECU requires inputs from a crank position sensor. Therefore if your engine is not equipped with a sensor you will need to mount a suitable sensor such as this Ford Zetec type sensor, along with a trigger wheel on your front pulley. We list a range of universal trigger wheels in our shop.

Data Cable (FTDI USB-Serial Adaptor). Whilst the ECU comes with an RS232 cable many modern Laptops do not have such a connection. Therefore this adaptor will allow a USB port to be used for connectivity. This genuine FTDI cable is guaranteed to work with this ECU, unlike many cheaper alternatives that often suffer connectivity issues.


Basemaps


ALL ME221 and ME442 ECU's are shipped with a test map only. This is highly unlikely to run your engine and if it does it will not run it very well! A library of basemaps can be found here on the Motorsport Electronics Support Pages as well as a full suite of installation manuals. danST Engineering can also provide basemaps for a variety of engines developed on our in-house rolling road.


Coil Pack Compatibility


This ECU is intended for use with wasted spark Ford and Vauxhall coil packs. Other wasted spark coil packs may be compatible however please contact us before attempting to use alternatives to avoid potential damage to the ECU. The fitment of a Ford or Vauxhall coil pack (available in our shop) will guarantee compatibility and reliability.


Note: As with all after-market engine management systems (ECU’s) a dyno tuning is recommended to avoid damaging your engine and to get the most out of your engine.
